Tech Tips: Keep it LOW

Keep it LOW!
One of the greatest advantages of the RiggenHO chassis is its low low center of gravity. Optimizing the guide flag shape and bend in combination with the correct rear wheels and tires will allow you to get your chassis low low low low! This will help you “stick” around the turns and not be forced to scrub off too much speed entering corners. Make sure your tires have slightly soft edges or you’ll just flip!

Check your flag height with a tech block and see how sharply you can bend your flags at the front edge. Confirm clearance all around (changing the front will change the back—you can tweak by bending the uprights CAREFULLY!). You also need to pay attention to the actual shape of your guide flag. Before snipping away, run a few laps and check the wear pattern. With a new flag you should be creating a noticeable groove right in the center of the wipers starting at the trailing edge. The optimal shape will NOT show this groove (or much less of a groove), which is basically creating excess drag from too much friction. To eliminate the grooving and create more of a “contact” surface area with your wipers try the following: Snip a little bit off the trailing edge of the wiper. Start by snipping down to close to the rear edge of the plastic bar, test, and snip some more testing between snips. Next, round off the rearward side edges of each wiper into a soft/rounded triangle. This softens the side edges that could otherwise cause a hang and flip going into turns. Finally, wipe off the wipers to remove any oil from your skin or better yet give the wiper a quick polish with your Dremel….
